The Sacrament of Baptism is the first of the three sacraments of initiation
It is also the first of the seven sacraments in the Roman Catholic Church and welcomes the baptized into the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ on earth. Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit and the door which gives access to the other sacraments.
Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission.
Baptism is the sacrament through which we become part of the family of God.
Our Lady & St Christopher’s parish welcomes those who wish to be baptised.
Families are required to attend a Baptism preparation course within the parish, after which a date can be arranged for the baptism.
Baptisms are usually held on Sundays after the 11.00am Mass (starting at approx. 12.30pm and lasting for around 25-30 minutes)
You will be required to nominate at least one Godparent who must be present to assist in the Catholic upbringing of the child, but you can have up to two Godparents. The Godparent(s) must be 16 years or older and a practising Catholic who has been Confirmed and made their first Holy Communion. Baptised Christians of other churches can be witnesses, but only in addition to the Catholic Godparent. If you cannot find a suitable Godparent yourself, the parish Priest can nominate someone. If the Godparent cannot attend the Baptism, they can act by proxy.

Baptisms are strictly by appointment only and usually take place on Sunday after 11.00am Mass.
